My name in Tom Nicholas Grice, and I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I offer both short and long term counselling for a wide variety of issues. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to talk about anything you choose.

Counselling offers you the opportunity to gain understanding about the difficulties you are experiencing, whatever these may be, and to work towards positive change. Understanding what is going on is a major step towards a change towards healthier ways of relating and behaving. I work in a psychodynamic way which involves looking at your relationship with your feelings, and how this affects your relationships with other people.

Issues I work with

I work with a range of issues including but not limited to: abuse, anger, anxiety, addiction, bereavement, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, discrimination, divorce, gender identity, family difficulties, health issues, illness, loss of a relationship, low self-esteem, panic attacks, relationship difficulties, self-harm, sexual difficulties, sexuality, shame, stress, suicidal thoughts/feelings, trauma, work related difficulties.

Short-term or long-term?

I offer both short-term and long-term work. In short-term work I will contract to meet for an initial 10 sessions, followed by a review to see if further counselling could be valuable. Long-term work can be open ended, or it can be for a fixed period of time, such as a year. Short-term work is best suited for achieving clarity on a particular issue, whereas long-term work is better suited for looking at multiple issues and achieving deeper change. Some people start with short-term work and then decide to extend their contract. I meet prospective clients for an initial consultation, in which we can discuss what best suits their needs.
